Established in 1981 by current owner Anthony von Mandl, Mission Hill is today widely regarded as Canada’s pre-eminent fine wine producer. The spectacular winery and 1,350 acre estate vineyards are situated in British Columbia’s beautiful Okanagan Valley.
 With over 35 years of uncompromising commitment to innovation and international excellence, Mission Hill has won Canadian Winery of the Year five times. By any measure, its top estate wines are at the forefront of Canada’s reputation for international excellence.

 The winery is modern and outstandingly well equipped, enabling a detailed focus on individual vineyard sites and small wine parcels. The company’s three tier product range is principally based on contemporary expressions of cool climate (esp. Bordeaux/Burgundy) varieties, but is evolving and already includes notably successful Syrah and Viognier.

Key Responsibilities:

Mission Hill is seeking a Chief Winemaker who will lead and oversee the company’s winemaking operations, winemaking strategy and quality execution. Central to the role is defining and evolving appropriate wine styles to command international and domestic recognition and maintaining Mission Hill’s emphasis on innovation in both cellar and vineyard. This requires leading, inspiring and mentoring the winemaking team with its commitment to continuous improvement of quality parameters, maintaining and implementing best practice in winemaking techniques as well as production and operating systems. Effective internal and external communication skills and the ability to represent the company at a senior level are essential.


To meet these requirements, the successful candidate will certainly have: a tertiary qualification in Oenology, Viticulture or a relevant related discipline; 10 years winemaking experience of which five have been in a comparable leadership role which included all aspects of the production of ultra-premium wines, including the abovementioned varieties.

An attractive remuneration package will be offered to the successful candidate, in addition to Canadian visa sponsorship and family relocation to BC if appropriate.
