Winemaker - Clovely Estate

Company: Clovely Estate

Location: South Burnett, Qld

Closing date: 20th October, 2017

A role with career development potential

Clovely Estate is synonymous with the best of modern Queensland winemaking, across a range of both traditional and “new” grape varieties and wine styles. This family owned company is an industry leader with a market oriented approach to integrating wine sales with direct, consumer-relevant experiences, including: contemporary cuisine, accommodation and an innovative “City Cellar Door” tasting, sales and dining venue in Brisbane.
With 170 ha. of fully mature, estate-grown vineyards in the South Burnett Viticultural Region, Clovely Estate produces a multi-award winning, 4 tier range of varietal wines. These include trophy-winning Shiraz and Semillon as well as a very wide range of both classic and increasingly sought after “alternative varieties” such as Saperavi, Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Tempranillo and several more, produced in a range of wine styles.
The winery is located in Murgon in a heritage listed building. It is a, well-equipped facility with a crush capacity approx. 2,000t. and 1.5m litres of temperature controlled tank and barrel storage. This facility handles all Clovely’s estate grown fruit as well as processing for other regional producers.

Key Responsibilities:

The largely autonomous Winemaker role reports to the General Manager of the South Burnett operations. To be the successful applicant for this role:
- You will have a strong track record in all key aspects of winemaking, production management, budgeting and team leadership, probably in a winery of comparable size
- You will have a senior management perspective
- You will have a hands-on approach and be an innovator and improver, who has demonstrated this in previous roles.
- Your experience and skills will enable you, in collaboration with Clovely’s Vineyard Manager, to embrace and produce distinctive wine styles destined to attract trade and consumer interest.
- You will have a sound understanding of a range of Australian and international wine regions and styles.
- You should be a confident presenter with a sense of fun and capable of being a persuasive internal and external ambassador for your wines.

The owners will consider a less experienced winemaker who might not have all of the above qualifications but who has the passion, determination and energy to make a mark in a new wine region.

An attractive salary package will be negotiated to secure an excellent candidate. It will include superannuation, car allowance and relocation costs (as appropriate) as well as, a company–owned family home.
